Wozzeck: Short Synopsis
Wozzeck, a barber-turned-soldier, shaves the Captain, and the Captain makes fun of him because he doesn’t engage in conversation. He also earns money by becoming a human experimenter for a shady doctor. Marie, Wozzeck’s common-law wife, is burnt out with poverty and gives herself to the drum major.
Wozzeck discovers that Marie is having an affair. He stabs Marie. He dies trying to wash the blood stain away in a pond. Marie’s son plays innocently, unaware of her death.
